Akpabio and the Side Chick He Wanted But Couldn’t Get
Hi
We hope you are having the best of the week. If you’ve been on the news, you must have heard that Senator Natasha finally apologised! ICYMI here’s the gist.
“Dear Distinguished Senate President Godswill Akpabio,
It is with the deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret that I tender this apology for the grievous crime of possessing dignity and self-respect in your most exalted presence…. I now realize the catastrophic consequences of my actions: legislation delayed, tempers flared, and the tragic bruising of egos so large they require their own postcodes. For this disruption to the natural order of ‘quid pro quo,’ I bow my head in fictional shame.
Oh well, it an April Fool prank too late into the moth. We found it funny. An advocacy group, Executive Watchdog didn’t. They thought it went too far: “Her satirical letter is not resistance; it is a confession of her disregard for evidence, institutions, and democratic responsibility.”
And yes, she is still suspended from the Senate. Evidently, she isn’t backing down. As for Akpabio, hell hath no fury than a senate president scorned. We have not seen the end of it.
That said, we curated a few stories for you. None of them is satire and one of them teaches an important lesson about learning from other peoples’ mistakes.

Google’s Monopoly Over the Internet Will Soon Be Over
From search to online ads, Google has had no competitors for more than a decade and half. In short, Google has been for years a shorthand for the Internet. All that is about to end. Within a period of 4 months, two federal judges have ruled that Google is an illegal monopoly. Prosecutors are now asking the judge to break up Google.
Following Google is Facebook which is under a similar trial that could also force it to lose either WhatsApp or Instagram. Regardless of the outcome of the lawsuits, the tech industry would never remain the same again.

Unmissable Piece: Singapore Built Africa

In 1964, the founding Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, undertook a 35-day journey across 17 African countries, including Nigeria. He met Balewa, Nkrumah, Nyerere, and many other African leaders we read about in history books. He interacted with them and returned with a clear vision of how to not run a newly independent country. This vision would shape the rise of Singapore as seen below.
This piece is unmissable! It should make you reflect on what could have been for Nigeria that got its independence ahead of Singapore. Here, a real apology is in order for those who squandered opportunities that Singapore never had. But more needed than an apology, is the political will to now learn from the success of Singapore.

Why Nigerians Still Buy Milo

People aren’t drinking Milo because it’s the best source of energy or protein. They drink it because it connects them to something deeper. A home, comfort and love. Nestlé hasn’t been selling a beverage to the populace but rather a feeling.
From Elsewhere
Most schools in America designed in the 1960s and 70s were built without windows from the belief that windows would constitute a distraction. A windowless elementary school in Illinois added 70 new windows to their classrooms. This led to the students’ math scores improving by 20% and their reading by 26%.
